On Random Spots of Inspiration: Pulp Covers and MMA!

I was reading the live journal of Christa Faust, author of THE MONEY SHOT and it’s eagerly awaited sequel CHOKE HOLD (the former is a great novel from the HARD CASE CRIME folks).  Her icon for the post was a pulp novel cover, featuring a beautiful dame casting a glance at a boxing match:

My wife laughs when I see stories in still pictures, usually while she’s enjoying the complexity of the art! But man, that picture just fired the neurons wild and true and I jotted down a brief outline for a horror-boxing story based on that image and some of the stories creeping into my brain while reading Jonathan Snowden’s engaging TOTAL MMA: INSIDE ULTIMATE FIGHTING.

Not sure when I’ll have time to crank out this little ditty, but always good to have at the ready. As Duke Ellington said, “Never let a good idea get away from you. You never know when it will come back!”

And now, let’s enjoy some self defence with MMA hero and King of Pancrase, Bas Rutten! (PS: Don’t try this stuff at home! Ever!)
